We do reflect what's inside our heart on our face, or at least what's on our mind at a given place in time. Sometimes an expression conveys the accurate impression of "hurry along so we can get to the important stuff". We have to be reminded that we're not the person who determines what the important stuff really is. God is in charge and when we hurry along, it doesn't leave any room for His plan, only our own.
This was made real to me recently one Sunday at a very unlikely place; church. I know that's where you'd expect to learn Christian principles but my teacher wasn't in the pulpit, he was in the congregation.
We came to the part of the service where the pastor suggests that we greet one another and this usually takes about 30 seconds to accomplish. It's the same every service, same order of service, same time set aside to complete this segment, and my same 4-way stop routine. You know - the handshake, smile, and hello in all directions. I don't pay attention to what others are doing after this segment because I'm busy settling in, adjusting my skirt, crossing my leg in that comfortable position, grabbing my Bible to be ready for the anticipated scripture reading, you know, my routine. But this Sunday while I was settling in, I looked up and saw him heading straight toward us. He was about 14 judging by size and clothing style, but he wasn't like other 14 year old boys in the church, he was different.
He walked right up to us, purposely extended his hand to shake ours, looked right into our eyes and shared the sweetest wide-toothed smile. He didn't say one word as he connected with us but his face conveyed a measure of pure love that I didn't expect to encounter on my way through the automated sameness of my well practiced greeting. There are not words to describe the love that his face displayed and even if I could find a few to fill a sentence, they would fall far short of the clarity of this young man's message.
I didn't know his name, but did recognize two things about him: He has Down syndrome and an ability to reflect God's love. He didn't seem to be in the race that I find myself involved in, he didn't seem to feel the need to hurry in preparation of the next portion of the service, and the most important thing on his mind was greeting me and then everyone else in his path. He conveyed something that morning that made my idea of greeting look pitiful.
Some lives are true reflections of God's love and isn't that what we all want to be? It is what we at Inspiranza Designs want to reflect. I look at this young man's example and feel challenged to stretch up to reach it. He blessed me with his ability to reflect God's love and I want to cast aside all my inhibitions and do the same.
So with this launch we welcome you to our blog, and invite you to come back often. Each time you visit, it is our prayer that you come away with a challenge to reflect His love through your life on your family, and on those you meet throughout your day. We walk in this challenge along with you and pray that we can do as Paul suggested in 1 Corinthians 16:14 ~ Let all that you do be done in love.
